ELEANOR SMEAL, President, Feminist Majority Foundation, Electtion 2006 w/ Mary Glenney, Women's Show11/18/06
Smeal, who was the first to identify the "gender gap in how women and men vote, spoke of the importance of the women’s vote this year. “If only men had voted, Republicans would still be in the majority in the Senate. Smeal also revealed that women’s votes were integral in deciding ballot initiatives that affect women. She said “women felt more intensely on some key issues, including the Iraq war. She talked extensively about Nancy Pelosi and what it means to have "Madam Speaker" in the House. There will also be women as chairs of a number of major committees. And there is a significant increase in women in state legislatures. MS Magazine released their election eve survey yesterday.
