Mel White on Christian hypocrisy by Mitch E. Perry
The Reverend Ted Haggard preached that homosexuality was a sin until November 3rd when the founder and pastor of the 14,000-member New Life Church in Colorado Springs, was fired from his pulpit over a sex scandal involving a gay male prostitute named Mike Jones, from whom Haggard also bought methamphetamines.
Although Haggard at first denied much of Jones' account, telling reporters he'd received only a massage and had thrown away the drugs, Haggard later made a fuller confession to church leaders.
Haggard led a campaign in Colorado to ban same sex marriage – a measure that passed last week.
Mel White has always had a lot to say about the Christain right and gays. Before his famous break with the Christian Right in the 1990’s, White was a ghostwriter and confidant to such fundamentalists Christian leaders as Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson and Oliver North. In an interview conducted before the Haggard revelations, Mel White told WMNF about those times (roll tape#1 o.q.and that’s what scares me)
That’s Mel White. He’s the author of the new book, “Religion Gone Bad: The Hidden Dangers of the Christian Rightcomments powered by Disqus
