Hillsborough DEC Election - Michael Steinberg -by Mitch E. Perry12/05/06
The Hillsborough County Democratic Executive Committee will soon have an election to replace its current chair, Janee Murphy. Murphy announced her intention to step after last month’s mid term elections.
Hillsborough Democrats have been considered to be in disarray for a number of years, sinc Murphy took over.
To say her reign has been controversial would be an understatement. A number of longtime members of the Party have dropped out of the party – some joined the Howard Dean affiliated Democracy For America campaign, others were part of a group that worked to try to elect John Kerry and Betty Castor in 2004, called the 537 Club.
There are 4 candidates on the ballot that will be voted on by Hillsborough DEC members later this month.
Tonight we speak to Tampa Attorney Michael Steinberg. Steinberg unsuccesfully ran for the Democratic nomination for Congress in the 11th District earlier this year, losing out to Kathy Castor.
WMNF spoke with him last week about why he wants to be the next Hillsborough County DEC Chair. Steinberg said his ultimate goal is to help get a Democrat elected President in 2008….But with all the problems the problem has had, how could he fix it? (roll tape#1 o.q.then everybody else)
That’s Tampa Attorney and Democrat Michael Steinberg….Steinberg is a candidate to become the next Chairman of the Hillsborough County Democratic Executive Committee.
