WITHOUT WALLS PULLS OUT OF CENTRO ESPANOL SALE by Roxanne Escobales

This just in… Without Walls International Church has just announced that it will not buy the Centro Espanol building in West Tampa. In a statement, the church’s non-profit spin-off, the Institute for Community Development, stated that it faced opposition from West Tampa developers who were – quote – “uncomfortable with the plan to dispense social services from the building.

The statement also said it was unlikely the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners most likely would not forgive an outstanding lien on the building.

Without Walls’ I-C-D had a contract to buy the Centro Espanol from its current owner, the now defunct Urban League. The Urban League dissolved after racking up 3-point-1 million dollars of debt trying to restore the former ethnic social club of West Tampa.

Local residents opposed the plan. And the city of Tampa already started the process of gaining ownership of the building back from the Urban League. Ownership will likely be transferred to the city at the end of the month.
