Ed Helm Loses re-election bid for Pinellas Democratic DEC Bid by Mitch E. Perry

Last night, Pinellas County Democrats dumped their Chairman, Ed Helm, after just 4 months on the job.

Toni Molinaro beat Helm handily last night at the Pinellas County Democratic Executive Committee Meeting in Largo, taking 142 votes to Helm’s 72.

For Helm, his Chairmanship was a short one. The Democratic candidate who lost to Mayor Rick Baker a year ago, Helm had certainly ruffled feathers within the party. He took over from Carrie Wadlinger, who quit the post this summer.

The St. Petersburg Times reported today that a number of locally elected Pinellas Democrats, such as State Senator Charlie Justice, Representative Bill Heller, and County Commissioners Calvin Harris and Ken Welch, all came to last night’s DEC meeting in Largo to observe the vote – all came in support of Molinaro.
