Crist doesn't reject Universal Health Care plan by Mitch E. Perry01/17/07
WMNF Drive-Time News Wednesday | Listen to this entire show:
Florida Governor Charlie Crist appointed Dr. Ana Viamonte Ros as Secretary of the Department of Health and Florida’s first Surgeon General.
At the news conference where she was introduced, Dr. Viamonte Ros who graduated from the University of Miami, the University of Miami School of Medicine and the Harvard School of Public Health, was asked if knew much about the universal health care plan that California Governor Arnold Schwarzenneger has just proposed. The plan would extend coverage to the state’s uninsured population.
Viamonte Ros said she had heard of that, as well as former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney’s somewhat similar plan to provide health to all in Massachusetts (roll tape#1 o.q.” quality access to health care”)
Governor Crist also said he has been following what Schwarzennger is up to California, and is open to providing such coverage in Florida.
One of that proposal’s most controversial aspects is that it would provide free health care to children of undocumented immigrants. A reporter asked Crist if he favored that provision or not (roll tape#2 o.q.”it’s better than being close minded”)
Dr. Viamonte Ros succeeds Dr.Rony Francois as Secretary of Health – now to be upgraded to State Surgeon General.
