MoveOn poll slammed by progressive critic by Mitch E. Perry03/20/07
WMNF Drive-Time News Friday
Yesterday (Monday) MoveOn.org announced on their website that more than 126,000 of its 3.2 million members had participated in survey over what piece of anti-war legislation in Congress that it should support.
MoveOn says that 85 percent of those who voted said they supported Democratic legislation sponsored by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and John Murtha- that says that US troops should begin withdrawing from Iraq in year. Only a small percentage favored legislation that demands an immediate withdrawal of US troops.
But critics like John Stauber and Sheldon Rampton say that MoveOn is betraying its progressive roots by supporting legislation that does NOT call for an immediate withdrawal. The 2 have written a piece on their website, Prwatch.org, blasting MoveOn for the move.
Stauber and Rampton are the authors of the books, “Weapons of Mass Deception” and “Toxic Sludge is Good For You” “.WMNF spoke with John Stauber today, and began by asking him what was his main issues with MoveOn.org (roll tape#1 o.q.”for their candlelight vigils”)
That’s John Stauber, from the Center for Media and Democracy. His piece with Sheldon Rampton blasting MoveOn.Org can be found on their website PRWATCH.org
WMNF attempted to speak to the Washington director for MoveOn, Tom Matzzie. He was not available for comment. A spokesman for MoveOn told WMNF that the organization would have no comment at all on John Stauber and Sheldon Rampton’s piece.
