Twinkie author tells all03/22/07 Mitch E. Perry
WMNF Drive-Time News Wednesday
In 2001, Eric Schlosser wrote “Fast Food Nation”, an expose of the local and global influence of the fast food industry in the U.S.
Since then, there have been similarly written books that examine as aspect of our culture from a variety of different angles, such as Lisa Margonelli’s “Oil on the Brain”, whom we interviewed last week.
And now, for the person who always wanted to know everything about the fast food favorite known as “Twinkies “ comes “Twinkie, Deconstructed: My Journey How the Ingredients Found in Processed Foods are Grown, Mined (Yes, Mined) and Manipulated into what American Eats”, written by Steve Ettlinger.
WMNF spoke with Steve Etlinger last week. We began by asking him that after all his research, would he advocate that people eliminate twinkies from their regular consumption? (roll tape#1 o.q.”or something like that”)
That’s Steve Ettlinger. He’s the author of the new book “Twinkie Deconstructed”. For more information, you can go to his website written about the book,
