FAIR TRADE ACTIVISTS PREPARE FOR FTAA MEETINGS IN MIAMI

11/18/03

Trade ministers from most Western Hemisphere nations are meeting in Miami this week to plan an expansion of free trade rules. Many farmers, union members and environmentalists oppose expansion. They want "fair" trade. That is a system where local economies, workers, the environment and sovereignty are respected as trade opportunities between nations expand. Eric Rubin of South Floridians for Fair Trade and Global Justice and Sasha Chock of The Global Project for a Free Press/Media Reform Network discussed housing, the police presence and upcoming fair trade events this week in Miami.
