Air Quality in Tampa Bay Extremely Poor

For the 2nd time in 4 days, the Tampa Bay area was inundated this morning with smoke eminating from fires burning throughout the state, creating challenging breathing & viewing conditions throughout the region.


Today in Florida, there were approximately 223 fires burning in 54 counties,  covering over 89,000 acres across the state.


The National Weather Service had issued dense smoke advisory unti1 4PM this afternoon.  That expired at 4 O’Clock….But Nick Petro with the Weather Service, told WMNF a short time ago that another advisory could be issued later tonight

Several events scheduled for tomorrow are being canceled.  Such as the SunTrust Miles for Moffitt race event, which  has been canceled because of the weather conditions.


Stetson University College of Law is moving graduation ceremonies from the Gulfport campus to the Pasadena Community Church in St. Petersburg due to smoke and limited visibility

The Danger Ranger – Passport to Safety Event planned for tomorrow from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at The Children’s Museum of Tampa has been cancelled. 

The event will be rescheduled.

One of the major entertainment events this weekend is this station’s annual Tropical Heatwave Music Festival in Ybor City.  But Program Director Randy Wynne tells the Evening News , the show will go on (roll tape#1 o.q.”tomorrow night”)
