Line Halvorsen Interview Part II
Tomorrow night the documentary, “USA vs. Al-Arian” will be screened one time only at the Tampa Theatre at 7:30 PM. Tickets are still available at the box office.
The film features interviews with many close observers of the case, and the 2005 Federal Trial. Al-Arian and his 3 co-defendants faced more than 50 counts on terrorism charges, but the Tampa jury did not find any of the defendants guilty.
But the stunning verdict did not end in a happy way for the Al-Arian family, who are the true stars of the film. Al-Arian ultimately pleaded guilty to 1 count of providing material support for the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. He was scheduled to be released right around this time, and then deported to an unknown country to resume his free life.
But instead, Al-Arian remains jailed , now in North Carolina, for perhaps another year on a Contempt of Court Charge for failing to testify in an unrelated case.
After a screening for the local media, WMNF asked Director Line Halvorson if she thought that Al-Arian would be released by the time of her film’s release
