WMNF Drive-Time News Friday | Listen to this entire show:
Another chapter in the decade plus long Sami Al-Arian saga ends tomorrow.
That’s when the former USF Professor’s wife and their 2 youngest children will be leaving Tampa , and moving to Egypt.
Speaking this morning on the WMNF public affairs show True Talk, Nahla Al-Arian says she is moving mainly because of her children (roll tape#1 o.q.â€and goâ€)
Sami Al-Arian continues to be detained at a Virginia jail. Recently, a judge ordered him held until at least this fall on contempt charges for refusing to testify before a grand jury investigating terrorist finances.
That case is completely separate from his imprisonment for admitting guilt to 1 count of materially supporting the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. Al-Arian admitted to that count in a plea deal, where he was promised to be deported afterwards by the Federal Government. But he continues to be held in prison, nearly 4 ½ years after being arrested.
When asked what she will miss most about America, Nahla Al-Arian said it would be her friends (roll tape#2 o.q.â€with everyoneâ€)
Currently, Sami Al-Arian is being incarcerated at the Northern Neck Regional Jail in Warsaw, Virginia.
