CUBAN NATIONALS HELD AS POLITICAL PRISONERS IN U.S.?

Gloria LaRiva is the national co-ordinator for the Free The Cuban Five Committee. The group is challenging the U.S. government's arrest of five Cuban nationals back in 1998 in south Florida. They were charged with conspiracy to commit espionage. But their supporters say the five were not spying on the U.S. government but were engaged in monitoring right-wing Cuban exile groups that were planning terrorism against Cuba. Backers say the five broke no laws and engaged in no violence in their monitoring activities but were nevertheless prosecuted at the urging of the powerful Cuban exile lobby.
