Today at the St. Pete Times Forum in downtown Tampa, a job fair brought together employers hoping to fill vacant positions and people looking for employment.
Jobless figures released last week showed that Florida’s unemployment rate rose to 3.5 percent in June, up from 3.3 percent a year earlier. The Tampa Bay area unemployment rate increased from 3.5 percent a year ago to 3.9 percent in June.
Several dozen businesses looking to hire set up booths on the floor of the Forum alongside other entities such as loan consolidators, universities, temp agencies and employment search agencies.
Men and women, many in business attire with resumes in hand, browsed the booths or sat at nearby tables filling out job applications.
