Bold proposal offered to save access channel listen07/27/07 Mitch E. Perry
The Hillsborough County Commission will meet next week to confer on possible changes to the budget cuts proposed earlier this week by County Administrator Pat Bean.
The $56-million in cuts were mandated by property tax reform passed by the state Legislature last month. Among the highest profile services on the chopping block is the station’s public access and education channels.
But Louise Thompson, the Executive Director of the Tampa Bay Community Network, says she has an idea that will save the two channels and more than $1-million for the economically strapped county.
The idea? Have the Tampa Bay Community Network take over management of all channels the county funds -Public, Education, and Government (PEG).
