The Tampa City Council on Thursday discussed whether the new Museum of Art would be an environmentally sustainable, or "green" building, perhaps even seeking LEED certification.

LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and takes into account five areas: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.

WMNF spoke with City Councilman John Dingfelder about the possibility of making the museum and other city buildings LEED certified.

“The city of Tampa, both the City Council and the mayor have been talking about the importance of the environment. … Recently taking about LEED building ordinance, like WMNF, we need to make sure the museum building is green as possible."
