Mortgage crisis hurts renters too

The subprime mortgage crisis has also affected renters.

Yesterday, the Center for Housing Policy released a report called The Housing Landscape for America’s Working Families 2007. The report found that the number of low- to moderate-income renters who spend more than half of their income for housing has doubled since 1997.

Jeffrey Lubell is executive director of the Center for Housing Policy. He said Tampa Bay is among the worst 25 percent of markets for renters in the country. WMNF asked Lubell how the mortgage crisis is affecting homeowners and renters throughout the country.
