Our guest on this segment was former Washington Post and New Yorker writer Milton Viorst, one of the leading U.S. journalists on the Middle East.
Viorst will be in St. Petersburg this week. Today on WMNF, he discussed Israe's threat to isolate the Gaza Strip, Iran's threat to bomb Israel, the problems with the U.S. occupation of Iraq and the 1,400 year history of conflict between Christianity and the Muslim world.
Viorst will launch Eckerd College's 2007-08 Presidential Events Series with a public lecture entitled, "The Struggle Between the Arab World and the Christian West," on Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Fox Hall at Eckerd College.
Viorst is author of Storm from the East: The Struggle Between the Arab World and the Christian West which focuses on Arab Nationalism as a crucial element overlooked by American leaders in planning for the war in Iraq.
This lecture is free and open to the public. A book signing will follow.
