Farmworkers group targets Burger King10/02/07 Robert Lorei
Radioactivity: Live Call-In (Tuesday) | Listen to this entire show:
The Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) is organizing another campaign, this time to call on Burger King to buy tomatoes from growers who pay farmworkers a fairer wage.
The organization has already won victories from McDonald’s and Yum Brands, the parent company of Taco Bell. The companies agreed to only buy tomatoes from growers who pay workers double the rate that has been in effect for more than two decades. They are seeking a code of conduct from the company and better communication between farmworkers, growers and the corporations that buy agricultural products.
We’re joined by Gerardo Reyes; Cruz Salucio and Osabio Rodriguez of the CIW.
