STEREOTYPING NATIVE AMERICANS IN THE FILMS, TELEVISION AND SPORTS MASCOTS with DAN GREEN

02/03/04

Throughout February, a series of discussions and community events on a variety of coexistence-related subjects will be held throughout the Manatee/Sarasota area….The events are being held in conjunction with the COEXISTENCE community. Renowned artists, scholars, writers and peace activists will present their ideas and work experiences in order to broaden and deepen the community’s understanding and commitment to creating coexistence here on the West coast of Florida. Next Tuesday at 7 pm at New College - our next guest, Dan Green will present a lecture and a slide show about how Native American cultures and religions have been trivialized in our society. Dan is an associate lecturer at the University of Wisconsin at Lacrosse. These presentations are intended to provide those who attend the Museum on the Seam’s Coexistence Art Exhibit with the opportunity to move from inspiration, to awareness, reflection and ultimately to action.
