MAKING IT HARDER TO AMEND THE FLORIDA CONSTITUTION

02/04/04

ACCORDING TO A POLL TAKEN RECENTLY FOR THE FLORIDA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE- FLORIDA VOTERS STRONGLY SUPPORT CHANGING FLORIDA'S CONSTITUTIONAL PROCESS. TO STOP WHAT IT CALLS RUNAWAY AMENDMENTS FROM TAKING OVER THE FLORIDA CONSTITUTION AND THREATENING FLORIDA'S ECONOMIC STABILITY. HOWEVER MANY CITIZEN'S GROUPS SAY THE LEGISLATURE IS UNRESPONSIVE TO PUBLIC NEEDS, THEREFORE THE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT PROCESS SHOULD NOT BE MADE HARDER. OUR GUEST, MARK WILSON, SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, FLORIDA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, ARGUED THAT THE AMENDMENT PROCESS NEEDS TO BE MADE MORE DIFFICULT.
