Authors John Lloyd and John Mitchinson have written a new book, The Book of General Ignorance, which debunks a lot of common knowledge about the world.

Some examples: the American continents are named after an Italian explorer, that carbon is the most common substance on earth, that WWII ended in 1945 and humans have five senses. From biology and astronomy to history and literature, Lloyd and Mitchinson offer more than 200 examples where we should mistrust conventional wisdom.

Lloyd is the producer of the hit British TV show, Not the 9 O'Clock News, and Mitchinson writes for the British tv show QI.

I spoke with Lloyd and Mitchinson a few days ago and here’s the interview.
