BUSH PROTEST - Mitch Perry02/16/04
As the President was having his "conversation" across the Street from Nu Air Manufacturing , about 50 protestors, supporters, and onlookers stood along Anderson Road........ A HEAVY POLICE PRESENCE PREVENTED ANYONE FROM GETTING CLOSE TO THE TOWN HALL MEETING AND RESTRICTED PROTESTORS MOVEMENT ON THE PUBLIC SIDEWALK.
SOME IN THE CROWD WERE THERE TO CHALLENGE THE PRESIDENT'S POLICIES ON JOBS AND TRADE- THE TOPICS THE PRESIDENT WAS DISCUSSING ON THE INSIDE. OTHERS WERE THERE TO SHOW THEIR SUPPORT FOR THE PRESIDENT'S RE-ELECTION.
Roll tape#1 o.q." Chants)
Jesus Roa was one such protestor (roll tape#1 o.q. " billions of dollars")
John Russell is a Pasco County Democrat who says he may take on Ginny Brown Waite later this year for Congress.....He had nothing but scorn in speaking about the Republican Party (roll tape#3 o.q." of American soldiers")
Diana Starr said she and many of her friends did NOT George W. Bush seriously 4 years ago, and thus did not participate in the 2000 election...She says she won't make the same mistake again (roll tape#4 o.q."ephipany")
Eric Rubin is Director of the Florida Fair Trade Coalition.....He said Nu Air Manufacturing's success is more an anomaly than a trend (roll tape#4 o.q."fundamentally wrong there")
Not everybody on the outside was critical of the President....Kevin Conraty approves the President's Christian Values (roll tape#5 o.q."you gotta work at, so")
Thanks to WMNF's Rob Lorei for covering those protests.
