The race for the Democratic presidential nomination is up for grabs until after Feb. 5, when 22 states vote.
A new book looks back at how a loss by another Democratic candidate for President – George McGovern- ended up creating an identity crises for liberals torn between their convictions and the political calculations required to win elections. That's a dilemma that has plagued Democrats for some time.
Bruce Miroff is professor of political science at the State University of New York at Albany. His new book, The Liberals Moment: The McGovern Insurgency and the Identify Crises of the Democratic Party, looks back at the McGovern campaign.
McGovern was crushed by Richard Nixon in 1972, winning only one state.
WMNF began our interview with Bruce Miroff by asking him what compelled him to write the book.
