A HUMAN RIGHTS FOUNDATION AND EQUALITY FLORIDA UNVEILED A NEW AD CAMPAIGN LAST NIGHT IN TAMPA called "turnout tampa bay" - DESIGNED TO INCREASE VOTER PARTICIPATION IN THE 2004 ELECTION AND ADVANCE EQUAL RIGHTS FOR LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL AND TRANGENDERED PEOPLE....THE CENTERPIECE OF TURNOUT TAMPA BAY IS A NEW TELEVISION AD CAMPAIGN TO INCREASE AWARENESS ABOUT WORKPLACE DISCRIMINATION
(SOUND o.q."I'm just a lesbian"
WORKPLACE DISCRIMINATION IS STILL LEGAL IN MOST STATES, INCLUDING FLORIDA, ACCRDING TO ANDREA HART, TURNOUT'S PROJECT MANAGER. SHE'S ON THE STAFF OF DENVER BASED- GILL FOUNDATION, WHICH WORKS TO SECURE EQUAL OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL PEOPLE- REGARDLESS OF GENDER IDENTITY.
(SOUND #1 o.q."this coming November")
About 75 people gathered at the Madstone Theatre in South Tampa last night to view the new ads, scheduled to begin airing on local television this Summer in Tampa Bay AND Detroit........
Turnout's Andrea Hart says that the gay community is a 'finite constiutentcy nationally, which is another reason for the advertising campaign......
She says THAT GAYS AND LESBIANS DON'T GET OUT TO VOTE ENOUGH AND THIS CAMPAIGN IS DESIGNED TO ENCOURAGE MORE POLITICAL INVOLVEMENT. WHEN ASKED ABOUT THE CURRENT CONTROVERSY OVER GAY MARRIAGE-- HART SAYS SHE THINKS WORKPLACE DISCRIMINATION IS THE BIGGER ISSUE.
