Hot political topic: Separation of church and state03/05/08 Robert Lorei
Radioactivity: Live Call-In (Wednesday) | Listen to this entire show:
The Rev. Barry Lynn, executive director of Americans United For Separation of Church and State, joined us for this part of the conversation. He addressed the upcoming vote in Florida on whether a ban on gay marriage should be enshrined in Florida's Constitution.
Lynn says it elevates a particular religious doctrine, ascribed to by some but not all religions, into law. That, he says, is never good for freedom of religion. Lynn, an ordained minister, also addressed controversies involving Brack Obama's speech to a United Church of Crist meeting and the Rev. John Hagee's endorsement of John McCain. Hagee has made some very controversial remarks about the Roman Catholic Church.
Lynn will address these and other issues when he speaks in the bay area at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Jan Platt Library In Tampa. He also speaks at 7 p.m. Saturday t the Good Samaratin Church in Pinellas Park; and Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Fruitville Road in Sarasota.
