Tampa area Democrat Kathy Castor announced new legislation today to prevent oil drilling off the coast of Florida.
The eastern Gulf of Mexico is currently under a moratorium that expires in 2022, originally part of a compromise bill that opened part of the Gulf to drilling in exchange for a moratorium to 125 miles off the Florida Coast (with the exception of a small part of the Panhandle). Castor opposed that compromise and now says she will now file a bill to make the ban permanent and protect Florida’s coastline from the hazard of new offshore oil and gas drilling.
We’ll hear from her tomorrow night on federal legislation to address the foreclosure crisis in the country.
