WMNF Drive-Time News Friday | Listen to this entire show:

As leadership in the Tampa Bay Area seems to be getting closer to putting together a package to bring light rail to the region, the community is looking at other cities for guidance.

Last week Richard Simonetta, chief executive officer of Valley Metro Rail, the transit authority in Pheonix, presented an overview to the Tampa Bay Area Regional Transit Authority (TBARTA).

Pinellas County Commission Chairman Ronnie Duncan serves as vice chair of TBARTA. He told WMNF this week that he traveled on his own dime to visit the Valley Metro Rail authority, and the mayor of Pheonix, to check out first hand how they’ve done what they’ve done.

Get A Clue

Ronnie - you are a lame duck not running again and wouldn't be elected if you did! Get a Clue - due to tax reform teachers and firefighters are loosing their jobs and child abuse investigations are being reduced and you want to build a billion dollar train!!!! People would still need a car on each end of their trip. People aren't going to spend 2-3 hours fiddling with the train when they can drive in 90 minutes.

Tax Payer

Another monumental waste of our money. Check out all the empty bus seats we got now. Ronnie, early retirement would suit you. Maybe you can get a deal on a nice piece of property in East Lake.
