Progressive website hopes for statewide success
A group of Florida progressives have banded together and formed a new group that they hope will have the same power and influence within the state with progressives as l MoveOn.Org has done nationally.
Called Progress Florida, it’s political director is Damian Filer, who has been involved with various causes over the years, including fighting for small class sizes. Filer says he’s fine with any type of comparison with MoveOn, which was created a decade ago as a response to the impeachment of Bill Clinton.
ProgressFlorida.org is featuring two issues on its home page, which went live on Monday. One is an action on two developments near the Everglades. The other targets Amendment 2, the amendment that would ban same-sex marriage. The site uses provocative comments made by the man who has been instrumental in getting the measure on the ballot, social conservative John Stemberger.
The group’s executive director is Mark Ferrulo, formerly with the Florida Public Interest Research Group most recently with Environment Florida. He says that one way he’d like the site to be different than MoveOn is by working more from the bottom up.comments powered by Disqus
