The Hillsborough County Democratic Party hosted a fund raising event yesterday in Tampa’s Channel District. The event was an art sale, open to all interested residents, co-sponsored by U.S. Congressman Cathy Castor and City Council Member Mary Mulhearn.
Around 300 bay area democratic supporters were in attendance at the “Art of Politics” art sale. This was the first party event since Sen. Hillary Clinton suspended her campaign and announced her commitment to the campaign of Sen. Barack Obama. The group of party donors seemed quite unified in their support of the Obama campaign.
The party is now focusing on the November general election. Two principal issues were on the minds of elected official and party donors in attendance: Party unity and articulating the differences between Obama and John McCain.
U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor expressed confidence that the Clinton and Obama campaigns will rapidly coalesce.
There was broad agreement that Clinton will play a critical role in helping Democrats reclaim the White House in November.
As the Party transitions from the primaries to the general election, Democrats vowed to focus on clearly stating Party platform and how they differ from the Republicans' views.
