California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenneger was the keynote speaker at Florida Gov. Charlie Crist’s second annual Summit on Global Climate Change in Miami today.
The two coastal governors have thrilled environmentalists nationally by taking the lead on global warming while critics say the current administration has done little.
Schwarzenneger talked about being serious about working to eliminate the country’s addiction to foreign oil, which he said including rethinking nuclear power.
But the California governor criticized the idea of allowing offshore oil drilling.
Schwarzenneger blasted the U.S.’s lack of focus on trying to boost alternative energy sources. He criticized Detroit and Washington for failing to push the auto companies to raise their fuel economy standards. And he said the Golden State’s emphasis on combating climate change is providing a boost to California’s economy.
Every member of the public can also do their part to save energy on an everyday basis, Schwarzenneger said.
