Three Democrats are running for the chance to face Republican
Ginny Brown-Waite in November in Florida’s 5th Congressional District. The District includes parts of eight counties, including Hernando and Pasco.

John Russell is perhaps the best known candidate in the race. It’s his third consecutive campaign. At a forum in Tampa yesterday, WMNF asked if he’s a better candidate the third time around.

One of Russell’s opponents is 69-year-old retired schoolteacher Carol Castagnero. She’s from Pensylvania, but moved to Polk County some 27 years ago. She ran against Jim Davis for the Democratic nomination for governor in 2006.

David Werder is the third candidate in the race. WMNF spoke Castagnero and Russell in Tampa yesterday. We hope to speak with David Werder before Tuesday’s primary.
