Next week, the International Whale Commission, a treaty organization charged with overseeing the industry, will hold a four-day meeting in St. Petersburg.
According to the International Fund for Animal Welfare, those at the closed door conference at the Trade Winds Resort will consider lifting a 26-year ban on commercial whale hunting.
William T. Hogarth, chair of the International Whale Commission and dean of the USF College of Marine Science in St. Petersburg, will be hosting next week’s meeting.
Patrick Ramage, Global Whale program director of the International Fund For Animal Welfare, is calling on Dr. Hogarth to open up the process for scrutiny or cancel the meetings.
