Joanie Madden, founder and leader of the band, Cherish the Ladies. Joanie started the band with the idea of highlighting the contributions of women to Irish music in America and they released their first recording, “The Back Door� in 1985. It was chosen as best folk album of the year by the Library of Congress. In 2002 they did something no other American group has done, they won the 2002 BBC music award for “Best Group of the Year.� In 1984 Joanie became the only American to win the Senior All-Ireland Championship on the whistle. She has the most successful whistle album in history. Cherish the Ladies is performing with The Florida Orchestra March 5-6 and 14th.
