FCC Commissioner Michael J. Copps is visiting the Tampa Bay area this week as part of an extensive nationwide initiative the FCC has launched to increase awareness about the upcoming transition to digital television next February.

Late this afternoon, WMNF spoke with Commissioner Copps. We began by asking him if he thought the Bush Administration might try to push last-minute legislation through the FCC in its last days.

Copps will be hosting a Town Hall Meeting on the digital television transition in St. Petersburg the Sunshine Center, beginning at 11 a.m. Thursday. It is at 330 Fifth St. N.

Tune in tomorrow night for the second part of this interview.
