A reporter's visit to Ireland; Fertilizer Use in St. Pete; and Teaching Peace
Good afternoon, welcome to WMNF’s Radioactivity. I’m Rob Lorei. Coming up: we’ll hear from a local journalist who has just returned from Ireland; later this week the city of St. Petersburg will decide whether to restrict fertilizers during certain times of year. And later we’ll hear from peace activist Paul Loeb.
But first, a lot of listeners wanted to comment about last Thursday’s program on which the topics of unions, a living wage, and whether some blue collar workers were overpaid came up. A caller who identified herself as being successful in medical sales drew a lot of the comments. Here’s what some listeners had to say.
First up today, Mark Holan is a former newspaper reporter who is now a freelance journalist. He’s just returned from a trip to Ireland. And in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, he’s here to tell us about what’s going on in Ireland.
Segment II: St. Petersburg City Council will hear from environmental activists Thursday at 6 p.m. regarding the call for limits on fertilizer. The Sierra Club's Phil Compton and Joe Murphy joined us during this segment to discuss the impact of nitrogen and other fertilizers on Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.
Segment III: Finally today, Paul Loeb, author of Soul of a Citizen: The Impossible Will Take a Little While, will be taking part in the "Teach Peace" conference this weekend at New College. Loeb discussed his efforts to teach the methods of conflict resolution and peaceful living to people around the world. For more information: visit SarasotaPeaceCenter.org or call (941) 741-9755.
Tomorrow in this timeslot we’ll hear our annual tax call-in program. We’ll be joined by three certified public accountants who will take your questions about filing your federal income taxes this year. We’ll be taking your phone calls live tomorrow- but you can send a question in advance to me- (firstname.lastname@example.org) and if your e-mail comes in the next hour- it will be one of the first read on tomorrow’s program. We’ll be doing our annual tax call-in program both tomorrow and Thursday of this week right after Democracy Now here on WMNF Tampa…..comments powered by Disqus
