Hillsborough's Growth Management Director on SB 360 listen07/14/09 Mitch E. Perry
WMNF Drive-Time News Tuesday | Listen to this entire show:
Over the weekend, there were published reports about some uncertainty about the interpretation of Senate Bill 360, the controversial growth-management bill signed by Governor Charlie Crist last month.
The Tampa Tribune reports that Department of Community Affairs Secretary Tom Pelham has said that the law’s language allows cities and counties to continue requiring builders to pay for their transportation impacts.
The Tribune quotes the bill’s sponsor in the Senate, Bradenton’s Mike Bennett, as saying that Pelham is exceeding his authority and trying to exert state control over a local matter.
Peter Aluotto is the director of Planning and Growth Management for Hillsborough County. WMNF spoke with him and asked what he believes the law calls for now.
