The Hillsborough School Board today voted unanimously to do away with attendance incentives for the upcoming school year.
That’s an attempt to encourage students who may be sick to stay home rather than coming to school in order to earn an exam exemption for perfect-attendance or academic bonus points.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that people with flu-like symptoms stay home and avoid contact with others in order to contain limit the spread of the H1N1 flu virus.
WMNF spoke late this afternoon with Steve Hegarty, spokesperson for Hillsborough County Schools.
All attendance incentives will be reviewed by the school district at the end of the academic year.
