Looking for any way to save money, Hillsborough County Commissions today reduced the office of their legislative delegation down to one position.
Commissioner Al Higgenbotham said he had made a list of items for flagging, items that overall cost over $100 million.
Higgenbotham said one such office was the one that represents the local legislators who work in Tallahassee. He said that he had received implicit cover to reduce it after getting so few responses from other lawmakers.
Commissioner Rose Ferlita said she appreciated Higgenbotham’s scrutiny, but she said she didn’t want to eliminate the positions.
Commissioner Jim Norman said he didn’t like pitting one program against another, but Higgenbotham rejected that was what he was doing.
Commissioner Kevin White said it was time to cut the legislative district office .
The motion to reduce the legislative office was approved 4-3, with Commissioners Norman, Beckner and Ferlita voting no.
