Health Care Reform - Continuing to Advocate09/05/09 Mary Glenney and Arlene Engelhardt
From A Woman's Point of View
Margaret Flowers, M.D., co-chair Physicians for a National Health Program, Maryland brought us up to date on the status of health care reform in congress. On the plus side: Congressman Weiner will present an alternative to HR 3200 which is essentially Congressman Conyers HR 676 for single payer health care. In addition, Dennis Kucinich amendment to 3200 gives states the rights to enact single payer at a state level.
On the negative side: it is a chaotic mess and so much is being altered behind closed doors, it is difficult to know what the status is; any of the public options appear to be so weak as to have little possibility to improve health care - if they exist at all.
She said the most important thing people can do now is call/contact their representatives, senators and the white house. Further action is planned for late September or early October.
