Tampa area Congresswoman Kathy Castor today expressed support for legislation that aims to make college less expensive for students.
The House is poised to vote tomorrow on the Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2009. Castor says the legislation will raise the amount of the Pell Grant, and will link increases of the Pell Grant to the Cost of Living Index.
Castor says not only will there be more money available, but more students will be eligible for the Pell Grant award.
And she said that the federal government will replace the private student lending market, which should help students get lower interest rates on college loans..
The Tampa Congresswoman said that the legislation will not increase the federal deficit, but instead will save taxpayers money.
The legislation will go before the House tomorrow, which Castor predicts will easily pass in the Democratic-led chamber.
