The 2004 Election takes place in almost exactly half a year away, and most political analysts believe that the Presidential Election will be decided by 18

Or so Battleground States - and none more important than Florida....

There are several organizations working on trying to register new voters - on both the Republican AND Democratic sides.....

The latest group that will kick off a mobilization effort tomorrow throughout the state is called America Coming Together...Tait Sye is with America Coming Together (roll tape#1 o.q."and win the election")

Among the organizations that are working as partners with America Coming Together are a host of progressive groups, such as the Sierra Club, The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, EMILY's List, and MoveOn.Org.

Those groups obviously lean to the left of the Political spectrum.....The Democratic Party has their own registration drives in place...Both political parties are aiming in particular with getting Latino voters registered....As that growing part of the electorate is considered a swing vote.

The progressive groups have a lot of work in front of them...That's because the Bush-Cheney campaign already has in place 2,000 trained operative, and is working to get over 60,000 campaign "team leaders" to recruit more volunteers over the next year.

Tait Sye from America Coming Together explains that tomorrow's event is for those who want to to learn how to register new voters(roll tape#2 o.q."talk about issues with voters")

Among those attending tomorrow's meeting in Tampa will be former Mayoral candidate Frank Sanchez....The America Coming Together Open House, Canvass and Volunteer Recruitment Drive event takes place at 3701 West Cherry Street in Tampa, beginning at 10AM.
