WMNF Drive-Time News Tuesday | Listen to this entire show:
St. Petersburg voters go to the polls a week from today. In addition to Mayor, they will select five City Council members.
Even though during last month’s primary election, voters could only choose from Council candidates in their own district, during next week's general election all St. Petersburg registered voters can vote for all five contested seats.
Today WMNF continues our series of interviews with all ten candidates for City Council with the District 5 race.
It’s the only one without an incumbent because the current District 5 member of Council, Jamie Bennett, is leaving the seat after his unsuccessful run for Mayor.
Steve Kornell, the only openly gay City Council candidate is facing Angela Rouson, the wife of state Representative Darryl Rouson. She says that public safety is the most important issue at BayWalk.
In a St. Petersburg Times/Bay News 9 poll released a week ago, Kornell had a slight 24 percent to 22 percent lead over Rouson.
Tune in later this week for the fifth and final part of our coverage where we will hear from the District 4 candidates for St. Pete City Council.
The election is November 3rd and all St. Pete residents can vote in all five district races.
