There are conflicting opinions on how fast the oil is traveling, and some officials are saying they don’t think it’s even entered the loop current yet. USF researchers said yesterday that they think it has, and that oil should hit the Keys by Sunday. Officials are already studying tarballs that have showed up in the region. Dr. William Hogarth, Dean of USF’s College of Marine Science, says USF researchers are slated to scope out the loop current as early as tomorrow.
A USF spokesperson says the team may embark the research vessel Bellows as early as tomorrow morning.
