Reverend Fred Shuttlesworth and Willie Bolden were our guests. Willie Bolden is a civil rights veteran who was active in the SCLC and the Poor People’s campaign in Washington, D.C. in 1968. Fred Shuttlesworth is the legendary leader of the Birmingham, Alabama civil rights struggle in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Known for his courageous stands against Bull Connor and other white supremacists, he moved to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1961. Bolden and Shuttlesworth are participating at a conference on the Civil Rights Movement in Florida in the 1950's and 60's. They discussed the founding of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., their commitment to non-violence, and the struggle to integrate beaches in St. Augustine.
