Hillsborough County administrator Pat Bean barely escaped being fired today.
She has been on paid leave since March, while commissioners decide how to get rid of her without paying an entire severance package worth $450,000. Commissioner Rose Ferlita moved to terminate Bean without cause
Ferlita’s motion failed. Commissioner Mark Sharpe said there was cause to fire Bean because she gave herself and County Attorney Renee Lee a 1 percent pay raise.
Commissioners said they were serious about firing her and they strongly encouraged Bean’s lawyer to negotiate with the county if she wanted to resign instead.
