Less than a day after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a Chicago law banning handguns, two Tampa Police officers were shot to death at a traffic stop in the early hours of this morning.
Officer David Curtis and Officer Jeffrey Kocab died of gunshot wounds, and police are searching for Dontae Morris, who they think is the shooter.
Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor held a press conference this afternoon near the crime scene to announce that one of the two persons of interest is being questioned.
"The Sheriff's Deputy was going through the Bristol Place apartments about a mile from here and located the suspect's vehicle a couple of hours ago. Then based on a tip, we went over to one of the apartments at Bristol Bay and were able to come in contact with Cortney Brown. She's been taken into custody. She's being questioned right now as to the whereabouts of Mr. Morris. We have official charges on Dontae Morris. Two counts of first degree murder and one count of felony possession of a firearm."
