Today, the confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan are continuing through the early evening. The former Solicitor General gave calculated answers to loaded questions from Republican members of the Senate Judicial Committee. On Tuesday WMNF spoke to US Representative Kathy Castor, who said she thinks Kagan is doing well, and that Kagan’s approval would be a historic moment.
"As a former head of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers, it's a proud moment for all those hard working women lawyers, and you know women now outnumber men in law school. It's time to be on par or begin working our way there on the highest court in the land. But it seems like the Democrats on the Judiciary Committee are making an important case for the activism of the Roberts' Court. Especially if they continue to come down on the side of corporate America time and time again, standing up for corporations that really have carried all of the political influence. This is an unfortunate legacy, another one that President Busch has left us with. So it's very important that we, that Elena Kegan take her seat on the Supreme Court as soon as possible."
Representative Castor also said she’s optimistic that the committee will approve Kagan’s nomination.
