In his new book Reset (Times Books), award-winning foreign correspondent Stephen Kinzer argues that the two countries in the Middle East that will be America’s logical partners in the 21st century are Iran and Turkey. They share strategic interests, like a stable Iraq, stable Afghanistan, and stable Pakistan; and their people also share a desire for democratic values. He also recommends that the United States reshape relations with its two traditional Middle East allies, Israel and Saudi Arabia. This new view of the Middle East seeks to explain the past and proposes a way to reset U.S. policy in the world’s most volatile region. Kinzer joins us now.
