Good afternoon, welcome to WMNF and Radioactivity. I'm Rob Lorei. Our guest is Aya Batrawy. Aya Batrawy is currently an adjunct professor at the American University in Cairo, teaching journalism there. She is also a Correspondent in Cairo, Egypt, for Pacifica's Free Speech Radio News. She has worked and produced stories for a number of places including NPR, BBC and for Egypt's 24-hour English satellite news channel, Nile TV. Her pieces have been picked up and aired on CNN International. She has also been published in magazines. Over the past three years, she has reported from Cairo, Rafah, Gaza, Jerusalem, Amman and most recently Kashmir, where she spent the summer and filed stories for Aljazeera's English website among other news outlets. Her radio stories from Kashmir will be aired on Pacifica in the coming weeks.
Previously, Aya worked as a correspondent for the Kuwait News Agency in Washington, DC and earned her Master's Degree from the University of London's School of Oriental and African Studies. But she started her career right here in Tampa at WMNF, interning and working as a volunteer reporter while completing two undergraduate degrees at USF.
